Unist’ot’en and RCMP meet

Steps are being taken to calm the situation between Unist’ot’en and RCMP.

A meeting Tuesday saw police superintendents, hereditary chiefs, and legal aid come together to discuss growing concerns and improve communication between both sides.

Wet’suwet’en Chief Namoks says the Unist’ot’en is a very peaceful group.

“They still allow Canfor in for their tree planting. They still allow hunters, berry pickers, tourists, it’s just pipeline proponents that they’re actually restricting,” he says, “[Unist’ot’en are] asking questions [upon arrival]. If you don’t answer questions favourably, they simply deny access.”

So far, Chief Namoks says no one from the Unist’ot’en has committed a violent act.
