Due to recent findings, all re-use sheds in the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako will be closed immediately.
These sheds are found at transfer stations, and staff recently found concerning materials within them including over 100 used needles mixed in with children’s toys, live ammunition, prescription drugs, and human waste.
Regional District Chair Bill Miller says the closure was the ensure staff safety and inform the public.
“Address the immediate need of reducing the liability but at the same time, giving the opportunity to chart a pass throughout to have an effective reuse and recycle component in our organisation,” he says.
A public information and consultation meeting will be held on October 14th regarding the issue.
