Wrinch Memorial transferred to Northern Health

The United Church has been associated with Wrinch Memorial Hosptial for over 115 years and is now looking to a new chapter.

The Hazelton hospital and all its related operations will be transferred to Northern Health as of April 2016, officially cutting ties with the United Church Health Services Society.

UCHSS CEO Mary Jean Morrison says this is the best move for both staff and patients.

“Churches no longer have resources to provide support,” she says, “and we’re looking at sustainability over the long term. As part of Northern Health staff have wonderful opportunities in terms of their career development.”

The Hospital was one of only 3 left in the province still being run by acute care.
