LDSS boys soccer bring home silver

It’s barely three weeks since the school year started and the Lakes District Secondary School boys soccer team has already proven themselves a force on the field.

Over the weekend, the Lakers were in Prince George competing in their season’s first tournament. The “A” school finished 3-0 in round-robin play, beating out many “AA” teams.

The only blemish on the Lakers’ record was a 4-1 loss to PG’s Duchess Park SS in the finals, landing LDSS in second place.

Athletic director Tracy Brown says the team has high hopes for this season.

“We have a big core, grade 12 group this year, so we’re a strong team this year,” she says, “we hope to go to Provincials in the beginning of November – that’s out goal – so we have a couple of tournaments coming up and we’ll see how it goes from there.”

Dino Wiebe received the goalie of the tournament, while Curtis Brown, Jacob Johnson, and Jeremy McPhee were all named tournament all-stars.

The boys will continue practising for tournaments in Fort St James and Prince George throughout October.
