“Blue Fin” becomes “Blue Water” under new management

A Main Street staple will have new owners, and a name, October 1st.

“Blue Fin” sushi bar will become “Blue Water,” when owner Cindy Palmer says goodbye to the restaurant she managed for 11-and-a-half years.

Palmer says it’ll be a strange transition for her.

“To walk down Main Street and not see the Blue Fin Sushi Bar anymore, definitely.”

Palmer recalls fond memories of opening up the restaurant over a decade ago.

“Shari Anderson and I first opened the sushi bar right next door to the 7/11 store, with just the 2 of us. I was cooking and she was serving and we never, ever thought we would need any staff or anything and it would be just fine just her and I in the little restaurant” she says, “it was so busy and it was just a great time. Then we started hiring staff. It feels really unbelievable that I went from that little tiny spot to a beautiful place on Main Street.”

Blue Water will now be under the command of husband-and-wife team Carli and Nels McIntyre. Carli worked as the Blue Fin’s bookkeeper from 2013-2014 and says aside from management and the name, everything will stay the same.

“Change can be scary for everyone so we just really wanted everyone to know that things weren’t going to change,” Carli says, “the food’s not going to change, the people aren’t going to change, we just changed the name a little bit.”

Jazz musician Keith Scott will be flying from Chicago to play Blue Fin’s grande finale 7:30 PM on Friday and Saturday.

As for Palmer, she says she’ll spend her new-found free time in Terrace to visit family and run her other, and now only, Blue Fin location.
