Burns Lake Council proposes pilot project to Premier

Burns Lake Councilors sat down with Premier Clark to discuss a potential new facility

Council said a “pilot regional community college” would be a better fit for rural communities than the one currently in place.

Mayor Strimbold says cuts to the local College of New Caledonia campus have seen the number of trades taught diminish from 6 to 1.

He says these cuts the family programming as well.

“A Senior Executives have told our community that as of March 31st, family services will no longer by offered by the college, so we’re really concerned about losing that services that impact over 800 families in our community,” he says.

Mayor Strimbold says the pilot college would combine First Nations, industry and local government to address community goals.
