A local Councillor will now be working double-duty as a voice for Smithers and other municipalities around the province.
Phil Brienesse was recently elected to one of five “Director at Large” positions for the Union of BC Municipalities.
The position helps municipal governments present local issues and solutions to the Province.
He says his first order of business will be to strengthen communication between local governments.
“I’d like to do a tour around the Province, visit each of the different councils and be able to sit down with them,” he says, ” I really want to take that on and see what I can do to reach out to people.”
He also plans to strengthen communication between Smithers and higher governments through this role.
