The number of properties sold in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District were down in 2023, however, the average prices went up.
That’s according to new data from the BC Northern Real Estate Board.
In Smithers, 157 properties were sold in 2023, 70 of which were in the last month alone.
This was down from 175 sold a year prior with the total worth of properties sold dropping by about $2 million.
Burns Lake saw 18 fewer properties sold last year compared to 2022 with the total sale price taking a $4 million hit.
Of those, 26 were sold in December with the average price being $240,957.
A similar dip in total sales was also felt in Houston with 55 properties exchanging hands last year with a total value of $16.7 million.
The year prior (2022), 73 sales were made totaling $21.8 million.
As of New Year’s Eve, 156 properties were for sale in the region.
