A local arts Council has put together an event that will kick off October 1st.
The Smithers Art Festival will take place throughout town over 3 days, beginning Thursday at the Northwest Community college.
Artists from around Smithers, BC, and North America will participate in theatre, music, and visual arts workshops.
Organiser and Smithers Secondary Drama teacher Heather Lytle says creativity is an essential skill nowadays.
“Employers that are out there nowadays are looking for people who can think that way, we need innovators,” she says, “so [the festival] is an excellent opportunity for youth people to be immersed in arts and be innovative and be creative.”
Events will begin with “Lit-Pop” artist Bubba Brinkman Thursday at 7:30 at Old Church. The event is $10 at the door.
The finale will take place at the Rotary Park (near Subway) around 3 PM on Saturday. Participants will march down Main Street and formally end around 4 PM at Bovill Square.
