Concerns of whooping cough at LDSS

LDSS students sent home with a letter Tuesday informing parents that whooping cough could be spreading through the school.

Early symptoms are similar to a common cold, but the cough gets worse over time and can last months.

The disease is very contagious and most easily spread through the air.

Northern Health spokesperson Johnathon Dyck recommends medication to avoid getting the cough.

“The best way to protect yourself from pertussis (whooping cough) is to get the vaccine and that’s something that people should consider if they haven’t been vaccinated against it at this point in time,” he says.

There are currently 2 confirmed whooping cough cases in the village.
