Burns Lake residents call for a cease fire on Saturday

Calls for a ceasefire in Gaza were heard in Burns Lake this weekend.

A crowd gathered along Highway 16 across from IDA Drug Mart on Saturday from 11:00 to 2:00 showing support for Palestine.

“We’re just out here spreading awareness,” said organizer Molly Nicholas.

“It seems like a far away problem but it’s something that’s really close to our heart because Canada is a colonial country and we know colonization never works.”

Along with a cease fire, they are calling for humanitarian aid to be let through so those who have been injured or are caught in the crossfire can receive help.

“More than over 30,000 people killed in the last three months and half of them have been women and children,” said Nicholas.

After the rally on Saturday, she announced a second rally on Facebook for this Saturday (February 3rd) from noon to 2:00 at the Burns Lake town square.
