Telkwa seizes benches after 13 more vandalized

For the second time in the span of a week, memorial benches in Telkwa’s Eddy and Riverside parks were vandalized.

13 benches were ripped out of the ground and flipped over last weekend. All of these can be fixed but are expected to cost about $100 to repair each.

Just a few days earlier, three other benches were vandalised from the same parks, two of which were damaged beyond repair. As a result, the Village has taken all benches in for the winter.

A Telkwa spokesperson estimated the vandalism costs of all 16 vandalised benches are about $3800, excluding the cost of labour.

There is no confirmation that the two incidents are connected, but the suspects of both are believed to be in the same age range.

Reports say up to 5 males in their mid-to-late teens committed the acts.

If you have any information on either matter, you are asked to contact the village of Telkwa or RCMP.
