Clean water in Houston following “pigging”

The District of Houston has finished water pigging, which means cleaner water from here on out.

The two-week “pigging” process cleaned most of the area’s water pipes, scrubbing the insides and removing iron and magnesium from the inner walls.

District Engineering and Operations Manager Don Hounsell says, under normal circumstances, there should be very few cases of dirty water from now on.

“The potential for the water is going to be much cleaner and the potential for having dirty episodes will be a lot less now,” he says.

He would also like to thank residents for their cooperation.

“Some people did have to put up with some problems with their water system while we were working on it,” he says, “the majority of the people in Houston were very understanding and very patient with what we were doing and we want to thank them for that.”

The pigging is the second and final phase of the new water treatment plant.
