Rogers receives $12 million to build new cell towers along Highway 37

Improved cell coverage is coming to parts of northwest BC.

Through its Broadband Fund, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has awarded Rogers nearly 12-million dollars to build new cell phone towers along a 70-kilometre stretch along Highway 37 to aid emergency services between Kitwanga and Dease Lake.

“We know how important high-quality communications services are to every aspect of peoples’ daily lives. Today, we are taking action to help improve cellphone services for communities and travellers along Highway 37 in northern B.C.” – Vicky Eatrides, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer, CRTC.

The project received support from the Tahltan and Iskut Band Councils as the highway is seen as a vital hub for economic activity.
