Hurricane Oho raining on Turkey weekend

Hurricane Oho will likely bring heavy rains inland this weekend, but experts say it’s nothing that can’t be handled.

A rainfall warning is in effect North Coast – inland sections. Environment Canada has released this statement:

“Heavy rain associated with the remnants of Hurricane Oho will continue this evening over the North Coast – Inland Sections. 24 hour rainfall amounts are expected to be in 50 to 70 mm range. Rain will taper to showers this evening.

Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for winter conditions at higher elevations.”

BC Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the hurricane’s tail end will be touching land throughout the weekend, causing some uncomfortable weather on the coast.

However, BC Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the storm’s effects will weaken as it heads East.

“On the interior side, it will probably effect parts of the Bulkley Valley, but the further East one heads towards Prince George or the down towards Southern Interior, the effects of the system will be less and less,” he says, “so it’s not that much out of character this one though being more intense than most systems.”

Lundquist adds the remnants of Oho will bring more intense rain than we’ve been seeing lately.

He adds that anyone heading west for Thanksgiving can expect high winds and potential flash flooding towards the coast.
