The Town of Smithers piloted a new program yesterday (Thursday) to return regular tent uplifts at temporary overnight shelter locations.
In October, the town announced they would pause tent uplifts to ensure the safety of staff and to consult with community partners.
The new program is being run to assess and adapt processes for the safety and well-being of those residing in the shelter area, town staff, and community partners.
A tent uplift is done to restore the shelter area before tents are returned before nightfall.
The original plan was implemented in an amendment to the Parks and Recreation bylaw.
