Chetwynd gifts statue to Smithers during NCLGA

A new statue was unveiled outside the Central Park Building in Smithers this morning (Monday) to kick off the North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA) Convention.

The statue is a gift from the District of Chetwynd and has been in the works for two years.

Smithers Mayor Gladys Atrill was joined by Chetwynd Mayor Allen Courtoreille at the event.

“It takes a group always to make things happen, so I wanted to acknowledge the council who have added Smithers to the Chainsaw carving tour from Chetwynd,” said Atrill.

The carving is called Lion Fish and was carved by Steven Kenzora from Peterborough, Ontario during the 2013 International Chetwynd Chainsaw Carving Competition.

Smithers is the 26th community to join the tour list.

The NCLGA continues this week with several northern community representatives in Smithers and Houston.
