The provincial government is moving to ensure those guilty of serious crimes can’t change identities.
New legislation would prevent those who’ve committed serious offences, such as violence against other people, or acts against children, from legally changing their names.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says such people should not be allowed to evade accountability for their actions by hiding behind a name change.
The move comes after Allan Schoenborn, who killed his three children in 2008, was permitted to legally adopt a new name – Ken John Johnson.
