Driverless car found in Skeena River

New Hazelton RCMP are trying to locate a driver after a curious incident on the Skeena River.

Just before 2:00 this afternoon, officials received a report of a car submerged in the river roughly 1 KM west of the Highway 16 and 37 junction.

After pulling a red Pontiac Sunfire from the water, they determined nobody was inside when it entered the river.

So far, there has been no sign of the driver.

Investigators are trying to follow up with the registered owner, though they believe someone else was driving at the time of the incident.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the vehicle or saw it prior to the river sighting to call the New Hazelton RCMP or Crimestoppers.
