Members of the Bryton Group held an information session at Boston Pizza Sunday night to answer questions regarding a proposed hotel.
The planned 83-room building would be built at King and Main, and include amenities like an indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, ski and bike storage, breakfast nooks, fitness centre, and a 2-storey waterslide.
Project spokesperson Aron Alexander says BG is planning a to address traffic concerns with a small roundabout at the intersection.
“That’s the best intersection that can be built so we know that there is fine, we know that we’re going to fix the junction of Main and King,” he says, “There are no major concerns.”
Another concern from both Council and residents was how the building would affect the local view scape. which Alexander says the 4-storey peaked roof won’t be very impeding.
“As far as using the site the best to limit we’re talking about the side of Safeway primarily, we’re talking about a few residents in the back area. By all means, it is going against the 3-storey now we’re asking for 4, but it’s going to be minimal.”
Alexander added the project would increase tourism within the town and create over 100 jobs spanning maintenance, administration, housekeeping, and marketing fields.
The project still needs height variance approval from Council and to complete a traffic impact study before anything can be finalized.
If everything is approved, the hotel could be operating by next Labour Day 2016.
