The new restrictions on cellphone use in School District 54 (SD54) go into effect next week as the school year begins.
They were made mandatory by the province earlier this year with specifics on how it would look determined by the school district.
Along with cellphones, the restrictions will affect use of tablets, laptops, and other internet connected personal devices.
Superintendent Mike McDiarmid said how the new rules look for elementary schools is “straight forward.”
“It’s a bell-to-bell restriction so we ask students not to have cellphones in use during the school day,” he said.
For high schools, phone use restrictions would only apply during class time and not between classes.
“Right now, we have language around students who may need a personal device to help them meet the learning outcomes of the lesson,” McDiarmid said.
The new school year for SD54 begins September 4th.
