Wildfire numbers in the Northwest Fire Centre remain lower than last year.
Of the 16 current wildfires, seven are out of control, two are being held, and seven are under control.
“Since April 1st, there have been 83 three wildfires in the Northwest Fire Centre burning a total of 78,792 hectares,” said Fire Information Officer Kaitlyn Baliey.
This time last year, 266 fires had started in the centre.
Most of the blazes started this year were suspected to be lightning caused, only 21 are suspected to be human caused.
The main fires burning in the centre are the Netazul Creek (1,755 hectares), Deep Creek (1,246 hectares), and Sabina Lake (41,170 hectares) wildfires.
The Netazul Creek blaze is about 25 kilometres west of Hazelton, Deep Creek about 35 kilometres north of Burns Lake, and Sabina Lake about 75 kilometres south of Burns Lake.
“We do have fewer crew members because some staff have returned to school or other commitments but we’re still in that response mode,” said Bailey.
Category one and two fires are allowed across the centre with category three being allowed in the northern and costal parts of the region.
