Provincial finding going to help gender-based violence programs

Provincial funding is going to two First Nation organizations in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

The is from the Giving Voice project which was started to take action around gender-based violence against women, girls and gender-diverse people.

$30,000 is going to the Lake Babine Nation to continue their support for Team Gooze.

They are a community patrol initiative that acts as Lake Babine’s emergency-response team and provides culturally responsive care for community members experiencing violence.

In Smithers, the Dze L’ Kant Friendship Society is also getting $30,000 for their Empowering Indigenous Women and Girls project.

“This support will empower our community to create positive change, promote healing and work toward ending gender-based violence,” said Executive Director Annette Morgan.
