Flood Warning issued for the Telkwa River

Recent rainy weather has triggered a flood warning for the Telkwa River below Tsai Creek by the BC River Forecast Centre.

According to the Village of Telkwa, high water flows can cause bank erosion and instability, and currents in the river can be volatile and unpredictable.

As of 5:00 this morning (Tuesday), the river was flowing at a rate of 170 cubic metres per second and continuing to rise.

With a flood warning, it means river levels have exceeded bankfull or will exceed bankfull imminently, and that flooding of areas adjacent to the rivers affected will result.

When going anywhere near the river, it’s advised to exercise extreme caution.
