A free preventive mental health training event for public safety personnel and their families is coming to Smithers.
This is being put on by the Smithers Fire Partner Support Program and is open to a wide range of people including first responders.
“We’re going to be seeing some mental health workers and clinical professionals from Smithers who’ve provided support to the fire support program attend,” said Coordinator Andrea de Vries.
It is also open to participants from Prince George to Prince Rupert.
Speaking at the event will be instructors from the Family First Responder and Beyond Operational Stress programs.
de Vries added getting the funding to put on an event like this has been a challenge, especially to make it free to attend.
“Yes, there’s been the logistics of booking venues and organizing with a caterer but those are easier to pull off than finding the funding in the first place,” she said.
The event takes place October 19th at the Smithers Christian Reformed Church starting at 3:30 p.m.
