An open house is being hosted by the Town of Smithers about upgrading Princess Street.
This is being held on Wednesday, October 9th at town hall starting at 5:00 p.m.
“We’re looking at feedback for what people who will be using the roadway often, who live in the area, or are interested in the active transportation aspect,” said Engagement and Communications Officer Samantha LeBlanc.
Four options are being looked at by the town which are:
- Keeping the current design while fixing current drainage and sidewalk issues
- Adding biking lanes to either side of the roadway, similar to King Street in Smithers
- Turning the sidewalk into a multi-use pathway with on-street parking along the opposite side of the road
- Only replacing the sidewalk with a multi-use pathway
Some feedback has already been received by the town which LeBlanc said will also be taken into account for the project.
Town council approved staff to go ahead with engagements at their September 10th meeting.
