Smithers council preparing for two upcoming public hearings

Two public hearings are being planned for the Smithers council meeting on Tuesday. (October 8th)

The first is for a bylaw amendment to implement a Short-Term Rental (STR) framework.

This is to align with the province’s Short-Term Rental Accommodation legislation put into effect in May.

Once adopted, all the STR operations in town, including Bed and Breakfast operations, must operate in compliance with the new requirements.

The other hearing is for a Liquor License Amendment for the Bulkley Valley Brewery.

This is to allow for their currently temporary outdoor patio to instead be permanently operated on a seasonal basis.

According to the town, the establishment opened their patio in June of 2020 after the COVID pandemic began.

Those affected or wishing to comment on either subject are invited to attend the meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

It will also be streamed on the Town of Smithers Facebook page.
