Sidewalk upgrades to be discussed for Smithers’ Main Street

Smithers’ Main Street could see a multi-use pathway (MUP) installed from Highway 16 to Tenth Avenue.

Discussion around funding for the project is on the docket for tomorrow’s (Tuesday) town council meeting.

The existing pathway starting at Tenth Avenue runs to 16th Avenue along Fulton Avenue where it would meet with the existing Cycle 16 Connector project.

The project is expected to cost about $500,000 with $175,000 of that coming from the Northern Capital Planning Grant.

The remaining $325,000 they hope to receive from the province’s Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and can be streamed on the town’s Facebook page.
