Seymour Lake under a Do Not Use order

A Do Not Use order has been placed on Seymour Lake by Northern Health.

This is due to a cyanobacteria bloom that’s occurred on the lake.

The blue-green algae produce toxins which have been linked to illness in both humans and pets in those who use the water system.

The toxins cannot be removed by boiling the lake’s water.

During this time, the health authority recommends using bottled water or another safe source for all cooking and consumption.

It’s recommended not to swim in the lake until the order has been lifted, and to use clean water to wash anywhere you may have come into contact with it.

The order will be rescinded once the bloom has fully dissipated, but a boil water advisory may go into effect afterwards.

Northern Health has contacted nearby residents and system users, along with posting notices around the lake.
