New signage installed in Bovill Square

The Town has added to Bovill Square by recently setting up two new signs.

The project was approved in mid-August, and both Smithers Council and the BV Community Arts Council have worked together on the newly erected features.

One proudly displays the name “Bovill Square” and the word “Welcome” in English, French, and Wet’suwet’en. The other explaining the stages artwork and gives a brief history lesson on the area.

Town planner Lillianna Dragowska says the design matches other town-owned structures, like the bike racks and Smithers sign at Main and Highway 16.

“We are just trying to go for some consistency in style [and] look of the signage that the Town of Smithers is putting out in our downtown,” she says.

The Arts Council donated $3,000 to the $7,500 project. Lighting will be added soon.

Photos were taken from Smithers Mayor Taylor Bachrach’s facebook page.
