The Hekmund Group held a grand opening for their new Burger King and Shell gas station in Smithers today. (Thursday)
The project started in 2021 after KFC was shut down in 2018.
Since then, several issues delayed the project including a stop work order issued by WorkSafe BC in May.
“It was hard for me because we were planning to open in May but it took another five to six months extra to open,” said Burger King Operations Manager Amit Sood.
Other issues were around adding the Shell station gas pumps to the property due to the limited property size.
Sood added feedback about the new establishment has been positive.
Throughout the day, free Whopper meals were served to customers who visited Burger King.
The next closest Burger King is in Prince George.
