Smithers residents are being encouraged to wear plaid and shop locally on Friday.
This is part of the Smithers Chamber of Commerce’s Plaid Friday event coinciding with the Smithers Merchant’s Christmas in the Valley.
“Really Plaid Friday is about a festive community-oriented event.” said Chamber Manager Sheena Miller.
“The core goal is to highlight the importance of shopping and supporting local especially during the holiday season.”
The event has been running for about five years with prizes available for people who wear plaid while shopping in local businesses.
“Plaid Friday’s more important than ever because this is about right now. People can start to shift their mindset on how and where they spend this holiday season,” said Miller.
Starting at 6:00 that evening, various activities will begin on Main Street as part of Christmas in the Valley.
Carolers, sidewalk vendors, and giveaways all will take place then and on Saturday.
Plaid Friday is also being hosted in Houston by their Chamber of Commerce.
