Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is banning all oil tanker traffic in BC’s Northern ports.
It is expected that this moratorium will have serious consequences for the proposed Northern Gateway, which Trudeau has expressed being opposed to.
Yinka Dene Coordinator Geraldine Thomas-Flurer says it was a big step in her tiring fight against Enbridge.
“I would call it a win,” she says, “he’s been very open and transparent and he’s looking for the best interest of not just Canadians but the planet and that’s very important.”
Thomas-Flurer and a group of northerners, environmental groups and First Nations sent a letter to Trudeau Friday supporting his decision.
