Local MP Nathan Cullen was named the critic for two major issues in the NDP shadow cabinet.
Cullen was appointed the position of Democratic Reform critic and says he wants a system in place that better represents voters, and thinks that it can be done before the next election.
“Canadians need to have their voices in this and we need to come up with the best system possible that achieves the goals and the intentions that we want,” he says, “I absolutely think that there is enough time and the commitment is a clear one.”
Cullen was also named Environmental and Climate Change critic.
One of his first orders of business surrounds an upcoming international Climate Change conference, where he says the new government needs to present a plan for real environmental change.
“[Canada has] been a big part of the problem and not much of the solution for the last number of years. We can’t go back and repeat the mistakes that were made by previous Liberal governments that set very ambitious goals but had no intentions or idea of how to actually achieve them,” he says.
He will be keeping a close eye on Prime Minister Trudeau’s participation at an upcoming Climate Control Conference in Paris in a few weeks.
It’s still undetermined if Cullen will be attending.
