Santa’s Breakfast raised 4-grand in Smithers

The Santa’s Breakfast at the Hudson Bay Lodge in Smithers on Saturday was a success.

That is according to event organizer Emma Robinson who said this was the first time she’s attended the annual event.

“Because I never attended one, I wasn’t sure what to expect for people, the demographic we’d be serving, as well making connections with people in the community to bring in sponsors and volunteers.”

About $4,000 was raised at the event for the Smithers Salvation Army with about 740 people attending.

Along with the funds raised, non-perishable food items were collected and donated.

“I was just in [the Salvation Army] and saw how much food really was brought in from this event and that’s what the goal is,” said Robinson.

The Smithers Community Band and Bulkley Valley Youth Fiddlers were also at the event playing Christmas music while breakfast was served.

The hope for next year is to further raise awareness of the event.
