Smithers judge hands down house arrest sentence to hereditary chief

A Lake Babine hereditary chief has been sentenced to house arrest according to the BC Prosecution Service.

64-year-old Ronnie West learned of his fate in Smithers Court on Monday (December).

He was given a conditional sentence order of two years less a day to be followed by a three-year probation order.

The court also imposed a DNA order and he will be added to the national sex offender registry.

West also received a 20-year-firearms ban.
