$46,000 raised to help the Burns Lake Legion

The Burns Lake Legion raised funds to keep the lights on with their Lest We Forget auction that ended on December 20th.

This was held to help offset a $65,000 debt that had been amassed.

“We did very, very well and at the end of the day, we raised $46,000,” said Trustee Jeanne Parkinson.

This year also saw the group struggle with volunteer numbers which they’ve been able to increase.

“We’ve got a full management team and hopefully we’ll also have a list of other volunteers when we call for some,” she said.

Between the two issues, Parkinson said this year was a struggle especially after she and another Fraser Lake Legion member arrived to shut down the Burns Lake branch in August.

“We had been assigned to look after it, we have a management in place now. We will work with them for a few months and once experienced enough to handle it then we can resign the trusteeship and turn control over to them,” she said.

In the new year, they hope to reopen Thursday through Saturday with a comedy act expected to perform in February.
