2024 ends on a warm note in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District

It was a warmer than average end to 2024 in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District according to Environment Canada.

“The mean temperature was –2.2 for December while the average is –6.5,” said Meteorologist Chris Doyle.

It wasn’t much warmer compared to December 2023 when the mean temperature was –2.5.

Snowfall was also below average as between 20 and 36 millimetres fell through the region – the average is 44.3.

Cooler arctic air moved into the region, dropping overnight temperatures below –20 since the start of 2025.

By the weekend, warmer temperatures are expected along with more snow.

“Our models suggest that there’s a possibility of a reinforced cold outbreak in the latter half of January. They also suggest with equal probability that it will stay warm,” said Doyle.
