Recognition for a highly respected Smithers RCMP officer

Women in the RCMP are being celebrated this year including Constable Melissa Murray in Smithers.

According to police, Murray has worked at the detachment for almost a decade with expertise in handling complex investigations.

“Cst. Murray is highly respected by both her peers and the community for her hard work and professionalism. She embodies the very best of the RCMP, and we are proud to have her on our team,” said Seargeant Ryan Law.

She also plays a leadership role by mentoring junior officers and is certified to teach incident management and tactical principles.

“Cst. Murray is an invaluable member of our team, and her contributions have had a profound impact on our detachment,” said Staff Seargeant Mark Smaill.

Aside from policing, Murray raises four teenagers who play hockey.

By the end of 2025, the RCMP hope to increase female representation closer to 30 per cent by showcasing women’s achievements in the force.
