Two Burns Lake projects receive provincial funding

Funding is on the way to two forest sector manufacturing projects in Burns Lake.

This is through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund with $5.1 million total being spent.

“The BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund helps businesses scale up, increase productivity and create new jobs by getting the most value out of every tree we harvest,” said Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar.

The Burns Lake Native Development Corporation is getting $22,000 to establish a wood-fibre production facility in Burns Lake,

This would use low-grade or unusable wood or wood fibre and turn it into biofuel, hog fuel, and sawdust.

$50,000 is going to Decker Lake Forest Products who use burnt logs and pine beetle kill to make lumber.

“This is just one of the ways the government is providing real support to encourage growth and help BC’s forest sector capitalize on more sustainable and value-added wood production,” said Minister of Jobs, Economic Develpoment and Innovation Diana Gibson.

Ten projects in total are receiving funding with the other eight located further south.
