Trembley transitioning to outdoor while awaiting roof decision

Some Hazelton residents are taking it upon themselves to make the local arena outdoor-operable in time for winter.

While waiting to hear back from the Aviva Community fund about a new roof and Zamboni, volunteers have created an ice surface and a tractor shack for the open air arena.

Figure Skating coach Stacey Brown says a roof would be ideal, but there’s a lot of excitement around playing outdoors.

“Just even being there and working on the place, you really get a sense of what it’s going to be like to skate with the big, wide sky over top of your head,” she says, “we were there working [last] Saturday morning and the sun was up and the mountain was there. It’s going to be quite exceptional.”

Construction will continue this Saturday, November 21st at 10 AM.

For anyone interested in helping, Brown’s can be reached at [email protected] or

A decision from the Aviva Community fund contest will be made on December 2nd.
