An arctic front is bringing below normal temperatures to the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.
According to Environment Canada, daytime highs will be below –10 degrees with overnight lows of –20.
“Arctic outbreaks are very common anytime between December and February and the odd time we get outbreaks later into the season,” said Meteorologist Lisa Erven.
The wind chill could bring temperatures down to –30 degrees but no extreme cold warning is expected.
“Extreme cold warnings require wind chill values to hit –40 for the area,” said Erven.
She added it’s recommended to prepare for the cold temperatures including having blankets and extra layers available.
Later next week, the arctic front is expected to linger while temperatures moderate.
“We might see those temperatures popping up by several degrees but can still expect overnight lows getting down into the –20s,” said Erven.
