A new prefabricated school facility is complete in Smithers for École La Grande-ourse.
The building includes five classrooms and a gymnasium, allowing an additional 70 students to attend the school.
“We are committed to providing students with the best possible learning environments,” said Lisa Beare, Minister of Education and Child Care.
Since 2019, the school has leased the former Bulkley Valley Learning Centre building on Fulton Avenue.
In 2023, the school received $5 million from the province to build the facility with an additional $2.1 million provided in November 2022 to purchase the former Chandler Park School property.
The goal is to develop plans for a larger, permanent facility on the property while the new building was used.
Since fall 2023, the province has invested more than $475 million for 37 prefabricated additions, which will create almost 7,900 new student seats.
