Houston, Telkwa to look at supporting Bulkley ESS expansion

Talks about the Bulkley Emergency Support Service (ESS) expanding into three new communities are happening in Houston and Telkwa tonight. (Tuesday)

ESS announced the plan during the January 14th Smithers council meeting where they got the go ahead to request a $200,000 grant from the UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.

Smithers and Telkwa are currently served by ESS with Houston, Granisle, and Witset in line to be added.

The funds would be used for new reception centres, training spaces, equipment, conference screens, and a regional training officer.

Each community would be responsible for providing space where the equipment can be stored, and volunteers can train.

ESS hopes the program will expand their volunteer numbers and allow for easier response in the new communities.

The Houston meeting starts at 6:30 while Telkwa’s starts at 7:00.
