Namaste Smithers is planning a Holi Festival at Tyhee Lake to celebrate the start of spring on March 15th.
The annual event typically celebrated in India which is also known as the Festival of Colours.
“We basically throw coloured powders at friends and family, celebrating with them,” said Founding Member Siddhant Suryavanshi.
He added the event is also to symbolize the victory of good over evil and is meant to bring everyone together.
Suryavanshi wanted to start the event after living in Smithers for the past three years and wanting to get together with friends in the community to celebrate.
“How we do it back in India, it’s just with friends and family together, applying colours and just partying,” he said.
In November, the group held a Diwali event that saw about 120 people attend.
The event starts at 11:00 a.m.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Prestige Hudson Bay Lodge, the Gentleman Salon, or online.
