Snowy start expected for SD54 spring break

There may not be much sunshine over the next two weeks as School District 54 (SD54) students start spring break on Monday.

According to Environment Canada, about two centimetres of snow is expected to fall over the weekend.

“It’s not the sun you’re looking for but at least not a significant amount of snow through the weekend,” said Meteorologist Colin Fong.

Through the first week of spring break, there is a low chance of showers or flurries with the sun occasionally coming through the clouds.

“The next major weather system could come as early as [March 22nd to 24th] although the details with that system are uncertain,” said Fong.

Temperatures aren’t expected to warm much either with single digit highs and negative overnight lows.

Snow remains a risk in the region for the rest of March before tapering off in early April.
