Holi Festival held at Tyhee Lake

Despite the negative temperatures on Saturday, several residents gathered at Tyhee Lake to celebrate colour and the start of spring.

This was part of the first Holi Festival put on by the Namaste Smithers group.

“Having everyone come together, celebrate together, it’s just an amazing feeling,” said Co-Organizer Harsh Kandpal.

The idea to put on an event came after he and fellow co-organizers, Mahendar Guduru and Siddhant Suryavanshi, originally wanted to celebrate with friends.

Kandpal explained everyone was coloured using powder to represent everyone being equal and celebrate unity.

Along with throwing colours, several Indian dishes were served along with music and dancing.

“We already did Diwali last November and it was fantastic so we’re hoping to do more with Holi and other upcoming events,” said Kandpal.

They hope next year’s event will be met with warmer weather.
