Update: Emergency crews respond to a gas leak in Smithers

Smithers Fire were called to a possible gas leak at a home on Broadway Avenue between Main and King Street.

This occurred today (Wednesday) just before 11:00 a.m. with the report mentioning a person and a pet inside the residence.

“In an abundance of caution, we contacted the local police, ambulance, Pacific Natural Gas, and closed the street,” said Assistant Fire Chief Matt Herzog.

Crews were able to enter the home after finding gas levels were safe, with the crews leaving the scene about an hour later.
