Kitimat holding Enbridge vote

Kitimat is asking residents to weigh in on the Enbridge pipeline.

Kitimat Chief Administrative Officer, Ron Poole says council is asking residents to vote on if they support the Joint Review Panel’s support of the project subject to the 209 conditions.

However, Poole is reminding residents that the vote is not binding, it’s just a way for council to gauge public opinion.

“They wanted the public to hear through that whole joint review process the information that came forward so that’s why the vote was delayed as opposed to run before the whole process.”

Both Enbridge and a group called the Douglas Channel Watch are going door to door and putting up signs encouraging people to vote.

Advanced voting happens today and April 9th with the official voting day on April 12th.
