Schools in Smithers, Telkwa, Houston and Burns Lake are closed again today for the second week of rotating strikes.
The Labour Relations board also ruled yesterday that the Province is able to move forward with a ten per cent pay cut during teacher strike action.
Bulkley Valley teacher rep, Karen Bachman will be on the picket lines in Houston today and says a full out strike may be in the works if a deal isn’t reached soon.
“We are taking a vote on escalating beyond the one day a week (strikes). The vote will be taken Monday and Tuesday next week and then nothing will change next week because we have to give three days notice to the Labour relations Board.”
Bachman says the BCTF has reduced its offer and are hoping for a deal from the province as soon as possible.
She says no one knows yet what will happen to report cards, end of year exams and grad ceremonies if a deal isn’t reached
